This piece is a significant early example of Judith’s signature technique of combining original watercolor paintings with fine textile art. Inspired by her own photography of abandoned houses and cottages, Judith uses these forlorn structures as a canvas for her imagination, adding vibrant gardens, trees, and shrubs to the watercolor scenes before printing them onto silk.

The true artistry of this work lies in the "transition" — the challenge of seamlessly extending the painted scene into the surrounding crazy-quilt border. This piece serves as a masterclass in movement and color, showing how the central image and the embellished fabric surround can become one cohesive story. For students and collectors, this is a well-documented work, featured on page 58 of the Crazy Quilt Handbook, 3rd Edition, and page 179 of the Essential Stitch Guide.
