This amazing sampler was made in 1940 by a Hutterite Grandmother called Rachelle. I loved being with her because she was in charge of the gardens. Young women made samplers for their hope chests. Hutterites are of German descent and live communally on big farms. Unlike the Amish, they use mechanical equipment. The C.C. colony was close to our ranch and was a big part of our community. I started a framed collection of Hutterite samplers years ago but gave all the framed ones to family relatives. Embroidered on linen and unframed. 44” long x 15.5” wide.
